IDA B WELLS HOMES, CHICAGO
2020 ARCH

Rhode Island School of Design

“Core 3: Cities”
with David Auerbach

Instructor: Cara Liberatore

BACK

This project aims to re-establish the strong community values once present at the Ida B Wells homes throughre-configurable clusters of single family homes. Exploring the boundary between the dense city fabric and the concept of the suburban home, a frame system wrapping around and connecting individual residences create a new axis of use. Partially covered with polycarbonate panels and partially open air, this  space functions as an informal common ground for residents, an interface that begins to blur the line between interior & exterior and public & private.
